Gareth Chalmers inducts Terry Ward into the NEIH Hall of Fame.
On the 22nd April 2006 Billingham Bombers Head Coach Terry Ward was inducted into the North East Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. Terry takes his place alongside fellow legends of North East Ice Hockey, Alfie Miller, Hep Tindale, Kenny Matthews, Terry Matthews, Peter Johnson and Shaun Johnson.
Terry made his Bombers debut as a 14-year old, and at that time was the only goalie at the club he, was part of the first Billingham side to play in the original Northern League.
Terry played in the first Heineken League season with the Bombers, before moving to Bournemouth Stags for a couple of years after being offered a semi-professional goal keeping contract.
He returned to Billingham in the late 80's, playing for the club until his retirement in 1993, when the club also 'retired' his No.1 shirt.
Brought back to the Bombers to be coach at the turn of the century and became part of the consortium that took over the running of the club.
Terry is heavily committed to both junior development and the development of English Ice Hockey.
He has seen a number of the current Bombers squad come through the junior ranks, and others move into higher leagues, and indeed the Bombers have even exported players, including the likes of Robert Dowd and Mike Farn who have just completed a successful season in US College hockey. Stephen Wallace, Andy Thornton, Richie Thornton all played at semi pro levels of British Ice Hockey and represented Great Britain.
Of the present Billingham squad, his son Scott is an important member, while skipper Paul Windridge played in the same side as Terry for about four seasons.
Terry has a passion and a commitment to raise the standard of British Ice Hockey, and to reduce the reliance on imported talent, he has also been involved in coaching conference and junior national teams, and played for the England senior side on a number of occasions.
